If this past year has taught me anything, it’s that self-care is no longer just a luxury or a fun weekend activity to post on Instagram. When life gets heavy, your body physically stores that grief, stress, and transition. For me, regular bodywork and quiet spa days have transitioned from "splurges" to essential survival mechanisms.
Since I’m based in Quezon City, I’ve spent the last few months scouting out places where I could physically unwind, untangle the knots in my shoulders from sitting at my laptop, and just breathe.
Whether you’re dealing with the physical toll of a corporate shift, everyday adulting burnout, or you just need an hour of absolute silence, here is my honest round-up of five spa spots that have helped me find my baseline again.
Cedar Wellness Spa
If your idea of relaxation involves pristine privacy and flawless design, Cedar Wellness Spa (located at Holy Spirit Drive, QC) needs to be at the top of your list. Inspired by premium Singaporean and Chinese wellness concepts, this place feels like stepping out of Manila entirely.
The vibe of the place is immaculate. I don't know how, but there can be certain aesthetics that can make a spa really relaxing, and Cedar is just one of them.
Their private rooms are completely soundproofed, meaning you won’t hear any hallway chatter or outside traffic. Even better? Each private room has its own en-suite hot shower room. No awkward waiting in line wrapped in a towel.
SERVICE/S I TRIED: Cedar Signature Massage (2 hours) + Body Scrub, 90 minutes foot + shoulder massage
The Verdict: The foot + shoulder combo had me snoozing for the first hour, and I dare say if a massage had me sleeping my ass off, it's indicative of how relaxing it is. For the signature massage, it was a mix of acupressure and Swedish, and my therapist worked well with me when I told her the points I wanted more focus on.
The Cons: However, I would appreciate it more if there were a separate wet area, as it can be cold to do the body scrub in the actual massage room.
2. Reset Spa
Tucked away near the Project 8 area in QC, Reset Spa is exactly what it says on the tin: a complete reset button for your nervous system. It’s a premium neighborhood spot that leans heavily into a top-tier, luxury wellness experience.
Don't get me wrong, it definitely comes with a premium price tag compared to the other spas I tried, but the quality of service justifies every single peso because all services are included in the package, depending on the package, of course.
SERVICE/S I TRIED: VIP Package 3
The Verdict: For the package I got, it already included the shower, use of the sauna room, use of the steam room, body scrub, and a 1-hour massage. I'm not exaggerating when I say I felt like a new person after. I was also lucky that I was the only one using all the amenities, and I was able to relax freely. They also provided me with a pitcher of water so I would not get dehydrated during the sauna and steam room sessions.
The Con: The massage itself is meh. Although I think I can partly blame the therapist for this part, I felt like she didn't listen to me at all. I gave her the spots I want more work on, and she still did the massage on me, which I can only describe as "templated." I was expecting a mix of acupressure and Swedish, but she did all Swedish on me, even though I told her I wanted more pressure on certain areas. All the amenities and offers are the best part of the package, but if you're like me, who tends to have difficult places you want to focus on, be very vocal with your therapist about your request.
3. Balay Royales Wellness Spa
While their roots are in Las PiƱas, Balay Royales has been rapidly growing, and I am so glad they established a branch near my office.
The place felt familiar... almost. It was like stepping into a serene ancestral home. It immediately gives you those grounding, provincial comforts.
SERVICE/S I TRIED: The Royales Single
The Verdict: I was not feeling well when I got my service here, and I felt like the suob and charcoal bath included in the package helped me recover faster. Other than the incredible massage (which you will also get to take home the excess oil used on your session), I have to give props to my massage therapist as she really listened to me and my body. She also turned off the AC because I wasn't feeling well and immediately offered me water when I started coughing. They will also take your blood pressure before the service, and based on the results, it will guide them whether they will massage your neck or not during the session. Overall, one of the most worthwhile places for an all-in-one package!
The Con: If you're going to get the same package as I did, be prepared to go up flights of stairs, as the room and amenities are on the third floor.
4. Foot Zone
Sometimes you don't have two hours for a full-body oil massage, but your feet are absolutely killing you from running adulting errands. That’s when I head straight to Foot Zone (my usual go-tos are in SM Fairview and Robinsons Magnolia).
What I like about Foot Zone is that it's straightforward, comfortable, and highly professional. The techniques are also designed around Chinese reflexology principles.
SERVICE/S I TRIED: Foot Reflexology and Back/Head Massage
The Verdict: The chairs are pure heaven, and their therapists are absolute master-level experts at reading the pressure points on your feet to relieve foot fatigue. I think their extra services, such as the foot ventosa and the mini hammering of your legs, also add to how upstanding the service is.
The Con: None!
5. Alami Nature Spa & Wellness
Located on Scout Chuatoco St. (near the Amoranto and Tomas Morato area), Alami Nature Spa is a nature-themed sanctuary that literally caught my eye because of how spacious it is. I saw their invasive ads online, and I just went for it... and I'm glad I did!
Unlike typical dimly lit spas, their massage rooms are a breath of fresh air as they're incredibly wide, airy, and genuinely feel like a boutique hotel room.
SERVICE/S I TRIED: Hilot and Babad Package
The Verdict: I love how personalized everything is. You get to choose your oil, your soak, and you can add other add-ons to your service while you're still in the bath. The outdoor shower and restroom boast complete amenities. The massage is more acupressure, with the Swedish component comprising about 20% of the session. So if you're comfortable with hard-pressure massage, this is the best package for you. They also offer free complimentary drinks from their cafe after the service.
The Con: Call them immediately if you want a reservation! They get booked so fast.
Taking care of your body isn't selfish, as it's maintenance for the soul. Trying out these different spaces has been a huge part of my healing journey lately, helping me stay grounded as I navigate this busy new chapter of weekly blogging and restarting my projects.
